New England bucked a recent Super Bowl trend when they defeated the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, becoming the first betting favorite to win the big game since the Green Bay Packers downed the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV, and just the second favorite to win the big game in a decade. The moneyline favorite is a mediocre 7-7 in the last 14 Super Bowls.

Bovada lists the New England Patriots as 4.5 favorites to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII Sunday in Minnesota, and on the surface, that doesn't seem like a lot of points to give - at least it doesn't until you do your homework and realize that twice previously in Super Bowl history, a team has been favored by 4.5 points, and neither team covered the spread.
