Baseball is a mysterious sport, full of superstitions and rituals. From the Curse of the Billy Goat to the Curse of the Bambino, baseball has seen its share of odd occurrences throughout, especially the “otherworldly” happenings is the Giants reign in even years of the 2010’s. San Francisco has won a World Series three times in the last decade (2010, 2012, 2014) and has been one of the most popular franchises in all of sports. The Giants have experienced a tremendous amount of success in the last couple of years. [+]

But there has since been a plethora of changes to the squad. Nonetheless, manager Bruce Bochy has made the machine hum throughout his team in the Bay Area.

Online Tips For San Francisco Giants Bettors

This year's team will still be somewhat different from the Giants squads of the past, but still have a winning core. Gone are the likes of stalwarts Tim Lincecum, Barry Zito and Pablo Sandoval and in are the relatively new faces of Madison Bumgarner (2014 NLCS MVP), Matt Duffy (2015 Willie Mac Award winner) and Angel Pagan.

One of the constants, though, is catcher Buster Posey, one of the best in the game. The NL MVP in 2012, and an All-Star in 2015, Posey is the glue to the Giants on both offense and defense and is a key reason why they could return to the top of the mountain in 2016.

Also joining Posey this season will be pitchers Jeff Samardzija (All-Star in 2014) and Johnny Cueto (All-Star in 2014), both of whom were signed to huge multi-year deals. Cenferfielder Denard Span will also join the Giants this season to solidify their outfield rotation. The Giants have got off to a good start to begin 2016 by leading the division at the end of April, but they will need to put on the burners to get past the flashy Dodgers.

Playing in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Giants will be be playing in the Pacific Time Zone for most of their games and also on the road against division rivals San Diego and Los Angeles. However, keep in mind the time zone change when they matchup against the Diamondbacks or the Rockies.

With their sterling home record last season at 47-34, the Giants were one of the better options in the NL to wager on. Oddly enough, while San Francisco did finish the season behind the Dodgers in the NL West, they notched a winning season record against both Los Angeles and San Diego at 11-8 in 2015.

What might be more interesting though is the struggles the Giants had against the inferior Rockies (8-11) and then-mediocre Diamondbacks (also 8-11) in 2015. A final note to keep track of is that the Giants smashed American League opponents last year to the tune of a 13-7 record.

Pitching might be a bigger reason the Giants could be successful in 2016 even with the departure and decline of stalwarts Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, respectively. The rotation of Bumgarner, veteran Jake Peavy, Chris Heston, Cueto and Samardzija is one of the most stacked in the NL.

After finishing second in the NL West for the past two seasons, the Giants still need to unseat the Dodgers for the crown, but Los Angeles did lose ace Zack Greinke to the Diamondbacks in free agency which leaves an opening for the balance of power to shift back to San Francisco.

Another note to keep track of is the continued maturation of Brandon Belt, Hunter Pence and Duffy in the Giants offense as the season progresses and their workload inevitably increases.
