Edmonton Oilers Betting Predictions

After numerous failing first-round draft picks, the Oilers have finally got it right. Better late than never, if you ask Oilers fans. Now, they are a bonafide Stanley Cup contender. Well, maybe not quite yet, but they will be in a few seasons.

Edmonton are still a bit defensively weak, but they've got one of the best offensive units in the NHL. McDavid is not only the team's leader, but the 20-year-old is one of the best players in the entire league. Expect the Oilers and Calgary Flames to be battling atop of the Pacific Division in years to come. That's assuming both teams keep their young nucleus' together.

As far as futures bets go, you might want to throw a few bucks down on this upstart squad. They're not considered in the Stanley Cup equation yet, but with a player like McDavid you never know what can happen come playoff time.

You'll also want to veer predominantly to the overs market, as the Oilers often score goals at will while struggle to consistently play sound, tight defensive hockey.

10-Game Metrics

Make sure, when placing a bet on or against the Flames, to take a look at both team's form from the last 10 games.

Corsi Ratings

You'll want to look at With our Without You, or the Corsi Ratings, when you start to delve more deeply into the analytics. Basically, it determines how well a key player performs with, and without, their linemate.

Does it make a big difference if their linemate is missing? In the 2014 case of Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak, it made a huge difference, as you'll see in the video below:

Adjusted Efficiency Margin

This is also a team equipped to pull off some upsets, especially come playoff time. The NHL is all about speed and pace of play these days, attributes the Oilers have in excess.

If they come up against a number 1 or 2 seed in the postseason, don't be surprised if Edmonton pulls of an improbable upset. But maybe it won't be as improbable as you think.

Take a look at both team's adjusted margin efficiency to see if the Oilers are great-value underdogs.
