For years a team built around tight checking and a close to the vest defensive system, the Predators have changed the color of their scheme in recent years and now can play an offensive style as well as a shutdown version of their gameplan. An efficient, mobile defense gets the puck up to the finishers and all-star caliber goaltending generally ensures that if the Predators can get a few goals per night, then they will come out winners.

There are no soft touches in the current NHL, but studying trends and by knowing the intracacies of each team’s strengths and weaknesses, the astute bettor can still recognize when it’s the right time to wager on the Predators.

Today's Preds Have Plenty Of Bite

Ever wonder why the Predators are called the Predators, or why their logo is a saber-toothed tiger? It's because 26 years prior to construction of Nashville's home arena, the fang and a foreleg bone of a saber-toothed tiger were discovered in a cave under the building's location.

For years, it seemed an unlikely logo for a team that preferred to play a sit back and wait style and counter punch in terms of offensive forays, but today's Predators have plenty of bite. They are fast, skilled and talented and combine the traditional work ethic of the franchise with much more explosiveness on the attack.

Nashville's Defense Never Rests

Today's NHL is all about mobile, puck-moving defenders who can get the play up ice quickly and work a strong transition game and the Predators suit up some of the best in the game at performing this key element of the game.

Roman Josi and P.K. Subban are NHL all-stars and legitimate Norris Trophy threats. As a junior, Ryan Ellis was everything there was for a defenseman to win, both from the team and the individual standpoint, and he's brougtht that winning approach to the big show.
