Atlanta United FC are one of the newer MLS Soccer teams having been founded in 2014 and competing in their first MLS season in 2017.

Known as “The Five Stripes”, Atlanta United play their home games at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and are owned by Arthur Blank who also owns NFL franchise Atlanta Falcons and is the co-founder of Home Dept.

Atlanta United surpassed all expectations in their inaugural season, progressing to the playoffs becoming only the third team in MLS history to do so at the first attempt. It was a remarkable achievement and one helped by Josef Martinez scoring 20 goals in 22 games in addition to the 13 goals in 35 games scored by Argentinian midfielder Hector Villalba. The fairytale ended in the first round of the playoffs at the hands of Columbus Crew.

The following year was another successful one for Atlanta who finished second in the Eastern Conference only two points behind New York Red Bulls. Martinez added to his glowing reputation with another 33 goals in 36 games in all competitions to break the MLS scoring record.

Atlanta progressed to the MLS Cup Final in 2018 where the faced Portland Timbers.

How to bet on Atlanta United FC

Atlanta United FC have taken the MLS by surprise by being a dominant team despite them still being somewhat newcomers to the competition. Massive home support, top quality coaching from Gonzalo Pineda and a wealth of attacking talent have seen Atlanta United become one of the a popular MLS team.

The Five Stripes are undergoing a major shakeup in 2023, with Garth Lagerwey stepping in as the new president and CEO, and star player Josef Martinez leaving the club. It's a fresh start for Atlanta United as they strive to rekindle the same glories they've achieved in years past.

Pineda is well aware that there is little margin for error after the team missed out on the MLS Cup Playoffs last year, marking the second time in three seasons that they have done so. The pressure is on for Pineda to steer the team back to the top of the standings and into contention for the championship.

This season, the Five Stripes' success could depend largely on how quickly they can integrate Georgios Giakoumakis into the squad, as well as the sharpness of their other players. However, with the right adjustments and additional signings, the team has the potential to make the playoffs and improve upon its performance in 2022. Only time will tell if the new leadership and fresh direction will help Atlanta United FC make it to the playoffs.
