Denver Broncos (-3.5) @ San Diego Chargers, Over/Under 45.5
In our first matchup of the week we take a look at an AFC West divisional clash between the 4-1 Broncos and the 1-4 Chargers.
Both of these squads are coming off losess, but their seasons couldn't be more different. Denver was narrowly defeated by the red-hot Falcons at home, but the Broncos have stil enjoyed a successful season thus far with former seventh-round draft pick Trevor Siemian under center. With Siemian out of the lineup, rookie signal-caller Paxton Lynch came into the fold last week and looked underwhelming against the Falcons.
San Diego, meanwhile, have endured a tough start to the season. With a +10 point differential on the season, the Bolts could be 4-1 instead of 1-4. San Diego have lost many players this season to season-ending injuries, including starters Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead, Pro Bowler Jason Verrett and linebacker Manti Te'o. With Denver coming to town, the Chargers might have a chance to rattle Siemian or Lynch if he is under center, but expect the Denver defense to be a nightmare for Phil Rivers and the depleted San Diego offense.
Prediction: Broncos best the Chargers, 24-17
Baltimore Ravens @ New York Giants (-3), Over/Under: 44
In a battle of two of the NFL's unknown value teams, the 3-2 Ravens will travel to New Jersey to face the 2-3 Giants.
The Ravens are coming off a narrow 16-10 loss to the Redskins at home. While this was a setback, Baltimore has quietly established themselves as one of the league's more difficult teams to beat. Running back Terrance West has emerged as the leader in the Ravens backfield with over 200 rushing yards combined in the last two weeks.
On the flip side, the Giants are reeling a bit from a tough 23-16 defeat to the Green Bay Packers. New York looked sluggish for most of the game and couldn't find any rhythm against the Packers defense.
This will be a close contest, but expect the Ravens to rebound and steal the away win.
Prediction: Ravens over Giants, 20-14
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Chicago Bears (-3), Over/Under: 47
In a matchup between two of the league's cellar-dwellers, 1-3 Jacksonville hits the road to meet the 1-4 Bears at Soldier Field.
Look for Blake Bortles to exploit the mediocre Chicago defensive secondary. Jacksonville is coming off a bye week and have enjoyed more time to prepare for Chicago.
Chicago won't be a pushover. While their only win of the year was over the Lions (17-14) at the beginning of October, the Bears seem to have found an answer in their backfield with the arrival of running back Jordan Howard. He ran for 118 yards against the Colts.
Prediction: Jaguars knock off the Bears, 28-20
