San Jose Sharks: Heating up in the Shark Tank
Although their 8-12-0 home record is the worst mark in the league, San Jose has started to produce on their home ice at the Shark Tank. After recording just five wins during the first 15 games on their home pond – the Sharks have won three in a row at the SAP Center. San Jose is also aiming for their second six-game winning streak this season. After opening the New Year with home losses to Winnipeg (4-1) and Detroit (2-1) the Sharks trounced Toronto 7-0 prior to winning road contests in Calgary (5-4) and Winnipeg (4-1). Returning to San Jose, the Sharks scored a pair of wins as they beat Edmonton 2-1 in a shootout prior to posting a 4-3 overtime win against Dallas in their last action on Saturday night.
Ottawa Senators: Look to build on a victory over the Kings in SoCal
Aiming for their first two-game winning streak since December 5, a stretch the spans twenty games, Ottawa heads north up the I-5 fresh off a 5-3 win in Los Angeles on Saturday night. The win wasn’t without some struggles as Ottawa trailed 3-1 early in the third period and the Kings posted a 33-23 advantage in shots. After opening the season with a solid 14-7-5 record - the Senators have struggled during a 7-11-1 recent slide. Ottawa has posted a 0-7-0 record following a win during their skid and the Sens were outscored by a 32-11 margin in those seven contests. The Senators futility has pushed them out of a Wild Card spot as they trail Detroit by one point in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
San Jose vs Ottawa NHL Game Night Call: Craig Anderson (18-13-4 GAA 2.79) faces Alex Stalock (3-5-0 GAA 2.76) in the goaltending duel tonight. Anderson has been a leaky lately as he has allowed 20 goals and Ottawa is 2-4 during his last six starts. Playing in a contract year, Stalock returns from a conditioning stint in the AHL and makes his first start since he posted a 4-1 win over the Jets in Winnipeg on January 16.
