MLS Season Preview 2016
Who Will Win MLS Cup 2016?
The MLS Cup is the most prized trophy in professional North American and Canadian soccer and all 20 teams in this year’s Major League Soccer season will be doing everything in their power to emerge victorious.
Only 10 teams have lifted the MLS Cup since the competition began and none of them have been as successful as LA Galaxy, who have five MLS Cup titles to their name and four runner-up finishes; LA Galaxy have reached four more MLS Cup finals than any other team.
LA Galaxy - Early Favorites (+450)
With their exceptional record in the competition, it is no wonder that the LA Galaxy are the early favorites to win their sixth MLS Cup. Online bookmakers setting early MLS Cup betting lines price the Galaxy at around +450.
LA Galaxy have a stacked roster that includes the likes of captain Robbie Keane and former England national team captain Steven Gerrard, and added the vastly experienced Dutchman Nigel de Jong as a replacement for the outgoing Juninho. Much of LA’s success will come down to how fit Keane and Gerrard can stay, but with Gerrard turning 36-years-old in May, playing every game could be too big of an ask.
Portland Timbers : In With A Chance (Predicted Odds: +450)
Portland Timbers won their first MLS Cup in 2015 and did so in their first-ever finals. The losses of Jorge Villafana and Rodney Wallace will be difficult to take and places extra pressure on holding midfielder Diego Chara, especially if head coach Caleb Porter keeps to the 4-3-3 formation that served his side so well last year. Expect early MLS Cup betting odds in the region of +650.
Never Write Off The New York Red Bulls (+450)
You can never write-off the New York Red Bulls, a team who seem to excel during the regular season only to fall apart in the playoffs. This happened again in 2015 when they ran away with the Eastern Conference, finishing seven points clear of Columbus Crew SC, grabbing the Supporters’ Shield before losing in the conference final against SC Crew to a goal scored in less than 10 seconds of play. Will the 21st season of the MLS be the season the Red Bulls win the MLS Cup? Online sports betting sites are setting the line around the +450 mark, putting them on par with the much-fancied LA Galaxy.
It's Not All About The Favorites
It is not all about betting on the clear favorites as betting on outsiders may be a riskier approach, but will yield greater results. For example, FC Dallas, runners-up in 2010, are priced at +1200 before a ball has been kicked. Dallas topped the Western Conference in 2015 thanks to a superb home form and if Max Urruti fires on all cylinders throughout the season, Dallas could ruffle a few feathers.
Likewise, Columbus Crew SC (+700), who played some tantalizing soccer in 2015 and worked their way to the final, or Vancouver Whitecaps FC (+1400), who may not dominate all season long but have a good mix of youth and experience.
Who do you think will win the 2016 MLS Cup and who do you think has no chance at all?
See if your predictions match the many online sports betting sites out there, place some wagers and cheer your chosen team to victory.
