MLB NL Central: Brewers Blow Into PNC Park to Battle Pirates

MLB NL Central: Brewers Blow Into PNC Park to Battle Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates: Look to reignite their bat power

A long soggy evening doused the Pirates hot bats as Pittsburgh managed just five hits last night.  Prior to that, the Buccos bats had been booming as they had scored at least four runs in 13 of 16 contests. LHP Francisco Liriano (3-4 ERA 3.24) gets the call here and he is coming off three quality starts where he allowed two runs, on 13 hits with 29 strikeouts, over 19 innings pitched. Pittsburgh leads the season series 5-2 but this is Liriano’s first start against the Brewers this year.

Milwaukee Brewers: Brew Crew are a bad baseball team in many ways

While they have won five of eight games, we don’t see that run as a “turning point” for Milwaukee. Facts are facts and numbers don’t lie – the Brewers are brutal. They sit last in team batting average (.233) and on base percentage (.286) plus they are 26th in both runs scored (214) and strikeouts (472). Brewers first round selection in the 2011 MLB Draft, RHP Taylor Jungmann, makes his big league debut in this contest. Jungmann moving up from Triple-A Colorado, where he was 2-3 with a 6.37 ERA, is more of a “let’s see what he has” move rather than one that is bursting with confidence.

Brewers vs Pirates MLB Prediction: Following a long road trip (May 28 to Jun 7) we are going to write off the Pirates power failure last night as a case of too much TLC when they returned home on Sunday. We like the better pitcher, dealing for the better team, and we are backing the Buccos here. Give us Pittsburgh with a 600 unit wager on the money line odds posted at the BetOnline sportsbook.
