Although they have stumbled some, with three straight loses, few teams have been hotter than Chicago recently. Prior to the mini skid, the Ciubs went on a 15-1 run and their 67-51 record has Chicago three games up on San Francisco in the race for the final Wild Card berth. One has to feel for the Cubs as they are hooked into the NL Central Division that also features St. Louis (77-43) and Pittsburgh (71-47) and they trail the Cardinals and Pirates by nine and four games respectively in the race for first. The Cubs would be comfortably in first place in four of the other six Major League Baseball divisions.
Competitive early in the season, Atlanta was 25-25 and three games out of first at the end of May, the Braves have crashed as they are 53-67 and now sit eleven games behind the New York Mets in the NL East. The Tribe are also 15 games out of an NL Wild Card spot. Atlanta has been brutal as they are 9-20 since returning from the All-Star break. The Braves have issues across the board as they their 441 runs scored is the second lowest total in the league while their 529 runs allowed is the 21st worst mark in the Majors.
