Off Track Betting Maine

Although one of the smallest States, Maine is pretty big when it comes to horse racing. There are two live harness racing tracks in the state, with both offering year-round simulcast wagering on harness and thoroughbred racing. In addition, there are four stand-alone off track betting locations in Maine, so horseplayers in the state are never far away from getting in on great racing action.

Maine Off Track Betting Sites

As well as being able to take in live racing and betting at an OTB, Maine race fans have the option of wagering on horses with an account at an online wagering website. Most of these recommended betting sites include a racebook, offering track odds and all standard wagers, such as Win, Place and Show and exotics like exactas, trifectas and Pick 3s.

While almost all online racebooks offer a percentage as a win-or-lose cash back bonus on bets, most of them give a certain percentage for exotic bets - typically 7 or 8% - and a smaller percentage - often 3% - for straight Win, Place or Show bets.

This is why BetOnline.ag stands out, as they offer a 7% daily rebate on all racebook bets. That can make a significant difference for the horseplayer who always bets to Win.

Maine Horse Race Tracks

The history of horse racing in Maine goes back to the late 1800s with the opening of a harness racing track in Bangor. In 1950 a second track opened at Scarborough Downs which was the home of thoroughbred racing in the state until the early 1970s. Since then, racing in Maine has been exclusively for standardbred horses, although fans can bet on thoroughbreds racing elsewhere at the OTBs and simulcasts at the live tracks.

Maine

Bangor Raceway

The original race track in Maine at Bass Park, Bangor Raceway is now a full-service racino under the Hollywood Casino and Resorts chain. Live racing is held from May through to July and again from September to November. Racing is not held every day through those months, however, so it's best to check the website for specific dates and post times.

Simulcast racing is available daily in both the Race Book room at the casino and the Win, Place and Show Lounge. The casino at Bangor Raceway has slots, table games and a poker room. There is also a hotel on the site.

Scarborough Downs

Originally a thoroughbred race track, Scarborough now hosts harness racing from late March to early December, with racing every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. They also provide daily simulcast wagering on both harness and thoroughbreds from tracks throughout North America. There's a cafe and three different bars and lounges at the facility.
