Washington Capitals: Clicking on all cylinders
Winners of three straight, plus earning points in 14 of their last 16 contests, has Washington running as one of the hottest teams in hockey. Struggling through two mediocre months, Tampa Bay went 5-5-2 in October and 6-6-1 in November, the Lightning have picked up the pace somewhat as they are 5-2-0 through seven games in December. Injuries, especially the loss of Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palata and Jonathan Drouin have hurt as the Bolts 78 goals is 29 less than the 107 they potted through 32 games last season. While the points injured players produce are missed – production from stars like Steve Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov has also slipped while their set-up men spend time on the shelf. Following a 2-1 win in Columbus on Monday, and a 5-4 (OT) victory in Toronto on Tuesday, the Bolts close out a three-game road trip tonight.
