UFC 260: Ngannou Seeks Redemption Against Miocic

UFC 260: Ngannou Seeks Redemption Against Miocic

UFC 260 Experts' Picks

The heavyweights will take center stage at UFC 260 and in a rematch between current two-time champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou, the challenger is the betting pick to claim the belt. Did Ngannou learn valuable lessons from his setback against Miocic at UFC 220 to take the measure of the champ in the rematch? In another title bout on the card, UFC world featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski defends against Brian Ortega.

  • The UFC 260 odds and picks feature two world title belts up for grabs
  • Challenger Francis Ngannou is the -150 favorite to topple UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in the main event
  • Champ Alexander Volkanovski shows as the -185 chalk to retain the UFC world featherweight title against Brian Ortega

Francis Ngannou found plenty of backers in the UFC picks when he first met Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title in 2018 at UFC 220. However, he didn't deliver the goods, dropping a unanimous decision to Miocic. With the win, Miocic defended his title for the third time, establishing a UFC record for the most successful title defenses in this weight class.

Since that first bout, Miocic fought Daniel Cormier three times, losing and then regaining his title belt. Ngannou, meanwhile, has cut a swath through the heavyweight division. He's delivered four successive first-round knockout wins, the longest of which took just 1:11 to finish.

Assuming that there were lessons learned from his first chance against Miocic, the UFC 260 odds are favoring Ngannou to take the belt this time around. He's the -150 favorite to dethrone Miocic.

The heavyweight tilt is one of two world title belt bouts that are highlighting the UFC picks. The co-main event will see Alexander Volkanovski as the -185 betting choice to retain the UFC world featherweight crown against challenger Brian Ortega.

Stipe Miocic (20-3) vs Francis Ngannou (15-3)

This figures to be the fight of the night if Ngannou brings to the octagon the same intensity that he's delivered over his last four bouts. Ngannou was also favored in the UFC odds in their first meeting, but he looked overconfident and overmatched in taking a five-round beatdown from Miocic during their initial meeting.

Ngannou won't take Miocic lightly the second time around and that's why he's the slight choice in the UFC 260 Vegas odds in what should be a slugfest of a contest. Miocic has proven over his career that he can take a punch, but no one in the heavyweight division hits harder than Ngannou.

That being said, Miocic displayed veteran savvy in their first meeting. He took Ngannou to the ground whenever The Predator came headhunting. Does Ngannou have the complete game to overcome Miocic?

Miocic was able to outsmart Ngannou and wear him down during their first meeting. He's a legendary champion and as much as Ngannou is the sexy choice in the UFC odds, it's so rare to get a price on a champ that it can't be ignored.

Alexander Volkanovski (22-1) vs Brian Ortega (15-1-1)

Going back to 2013, Volkanovski has won 19 fights in succession. In his last two bouts, he won the UFC featherweight title from Max Holloway and then successfully defended the belt, also against Holloway.

A powerful striker and a quicker fighter than Ortega, Volkanovski is the clear choice in the UFC 260 picks. By comparison, Ortega is a game fighter, but he prefers a counter-attacking style that isn't likely to be effective against Volkanovski's persistent pressure.

Ortega has fought just once over the past two years. In his second-last fight in 2018, he suffered a stoppage defeat at the hands of Holloway.
