St. Louis vs Arizona: NFC West Show Me State Showdown
Cardinals: House of cards teetering on collapse?
Arizona fans, who received a +4000 ML price on the Cardinals (10-3) to capture Super Bowl XLIX back in August, must be excited but a little apprehensive as injuries continue to mount in the desert. Already down to second string players at quarterback and running back, Cardinals CB Antonio Cromartie, who is expected to play tonight, is hobbled some with an ankle injury sustained in Week 14 against the Chiefs. The Cards are 2-2 since Drew Stanton took over for injured Carson Palmer but they've been outscored by a 68-52 margin and both loses were on the road - to the low flying Falcons and soaring Seahawks. We honestly can't remember the last time an overall NFL leader was such a sketchy squad this late in the season - the 2008 Tennessee Titans are about as close as we can get.
St. Louis: Have posted several signature wins during the 2014 NFL season
Although they will miss the NFL postseason party for a sixth straight season, St. Louis (6-7) is playing at an elite level heading into this contest. While the competition hasn't been very steep, at a combined 5-21 mark, the Rams have recorded back to back shutouts after ripping the Raiders 52-0 at home in Week 13 prior to whacking Washington 24-0 on the road in the District last Sunday. St. Louis lost their starting QB Sam Bradford in the preseason, benched backup Shaun Hill following a 34-6 Week 1 home loss to the Vikings and then reinstated him in Week 11 after the backup to the backup Austin Davis evolved into a turnover machine. Get all that? In three of their six wins, the Rams have taken out the defending NFC and AFC Champion Seahawks and Broncos plus the 49ers who won the NFC in 2013.
Thursday Night Football Forecast: We mentioned a possible "spread trap" in the opening as the NFL leading Cardinals are rather big dogs against the golf course bound Rams on the betting board at Bovada. Although they won the first match-up 31-14 in Arizona, the Red Birds needed two defensive touchdowns and had to overcome a 14-10 halftime deficit, plus the loss of Palmer in the fourth quarter, back in Week 10 action. Betting action on this contest is fairly even on both teams but the sharps are backing the Rams and that has pushed this line up from it's -2.5 opening price. We suggest easing into NFL Week 15 action with a 400 unit wager riding the Rams money line price posted at Bovada.
