Padres vs Cardinals: San Diego Visits St. Louis in MLB NL Action

Still trying to catch Milwaukee for first overall in the NL Central, St. Louis looks for season series win as they host San Diego today. This is the fourth of a four game set in Missouri and the Cards send their ace Adam Wainright to the bump against the Padres in this matinee contest. First pitch is scheduled for 2:15 PM ET on August 17, 2014, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. We like the Cards here.

St. Louis Cardinals: Aiming for fifth consecutive win

Despite scuffling somewhat since the All-Star break, with a 13-13 record, the Cardinals (65-57) are still within three games of Milwaukee for first in the NL Central. After dropping two of three contests in San Diego to close out July, the Cardinals have won two of three versus the Friars in the Show Me State and we like their chances to bag a victory here. The Red Birds will claim a 4-3 regular season series with a win over San Diego at Busch Stadium today. Both teams will be a little weary after a playing a rain delayed three and a half hour marathon that was won 9-5 by the Padres last night.

San Diego Padres: Glimmer of MLB postseason hope fading to black

After a five game winning streak, where San Diego took out Pittsburgh twice and then swept Colorado, the Padres look to earn a 2-2 series tie with the Cardinals today. Still well back in the NL West division playoff race, San Diego sits six games out of an NL Wild Card spot - but need to jump over six teams. Padres rookie and rising star RHP Odrisamer Despaine (3-3 ERA 2.72) faces Cardinals ace Adam Wainright (14-7 ERA 2.34) in a pitching match-up that favors the home side. We will back the Red Birds with a 500 unit wager on the -190 money line posted on the betting board.
