NFL Weekend Picks: Week 14

NFL Weekend Picks: Week 14

Great Pick: Seattle Seahawks vs. Baltimore Ravens

Odds: Seattle -9.5

The Baltimore Ravens are one of worst teams in the NFL this season by record, but overall the team has played well. At 4-8 this season, the Ravens are out of the playoff race but still are playing tough football. Through 12 games this season, every game the Ravens have played has been decided by one score (i.e 8 points or less). The Seahawks are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now, winning with their all of a sudden explosive offense. With that being said, the Ravens have kept every game close this season, including games against quality opponents such as Denver, Arizona and Pittsburgh.

Pick: Baltimore

Good Pick: Detroit Lions vs. St. Louis Rams

Odds: Detroit -2.5

After the crazy ending to Detroit’s last game – Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary pass to win the game as time expires in case you missed it – the Lion’s really need a win to get the sour taste of defeat out of their mouths. The Rams are a wreck at this point of the season and have maybe the worst offense in the NFL. The Lions are aiming for 8-8 this season, to help justify people and players retaining their jobs in 2016, while the Rams are a team that looks like they need a complete overhaul after years of mediocre.

Pick: Detroit

Game to Avoid: San Francisco 49ers vs. Cleveland Browns

Odds: Cleveland -2.0

Two bad teams. Two Quarterbacks considered busts. Two points for the BROWNS! The Browns are rarely, if ever favourites, but they have that honour on Sunday. Both teams in this game are in position for high drafts picks – currently the Browns have the top – and no playoff hopes. With nothing to play for, not much talent on the field and two quarterbacks – Blaine Gabbert and Johnny Manziel – both at this point in their career are considered busts, this game could conceivably go just about any direction.

Fantasy Players of the Week

Quarterback: Jameis Winston vs. New Orleans Saints – The New Orleans Saints’ are on pace to allow the most passing touchdowns in the NFL and rank last in total yards allowed at horrendous 425 yards per game. Jameis Winston is proving to be a great #1 overall draft pick and has shown great ability in the passing game and using his feet to pick up extra yardage and score touchdowns – Winston has 5 rushing TDs this season. With the Bucs in the middle of the playoff race and the Saints offense firing on all cylinders, points can be expected and Winston should be productive on Sunday.

Running Back: LeSean McCoy vs. Philadelphia Eagles – LeSean McCoy makes his return to Philadelphia on Sunday – after playing for them from 2009 to 2014. McCoy was a great back during his tenure in Philly, scoring 54 total touchdowns and producing over 9000 yards of offense in six seasons. McCoy has been catching fire as of late, averaging over 15 points per game since the middle of October. McCoy is looking forward to his return to Philly and has been vocal about their decision to trade him away in the offseason, adding a bit more fuel to his fire.

Wide Receiver: Martavis Bryant vs. Cincinnati Bengals – Bryant started the season suspended for 4 games, but even without those games Bryant is pushing to be a top-20 fantasy receiver. Bryant has quickly developed into one of the NFL’s premier deep threat averaging over 20 yard per catch. Through 7 games, Bryant is averaging 90 yard per game and has scored 7 total touchdowns. His worst game of the season came against the Bengals, but the offense has been clicking the last few weeks and the Steelers need to win on Sunday.

Tight End: Gary Barnidge vs. San Francisco 49ers – Barnidge has been one of the few bright spots on the Browns this season and is the fourth ranked fantasy tight end through 13 weeks. Barnidge has played well against the NFC West this season averaging over 10 points per game. With the receiving core of the Browns banged up, Barnidge should get some extra targets on Sunday in a sloppy game between two bad teams.

Defense: Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys – After a bad stretch in the middle of the season, the Packers defense is finally starting to turn the corner. The matchup heavily favours the Packers as the Cowboys offense has been a disaster without Tony Romo at quarterback. The Packers have 10 sacks over the last 3 games – after failing to register one in the 3 games prior. The Packers aren’t the best defense in the league, but when they turn it on they rake up the points with the best of them.
