NFL Week 8 Detroit vs Atlanta International Series Continues

NFL Week 8 Detroit vs Atlanta International Series Continues

Not big fans of teams having to play outside of North America, we were shocked and unimpressed when we saw that the NFL is taking their show across the pond for three games this season. Act 1 was a blowout as the Dolphins ripped the Raiders 38-14 back in Week 4. Another blowout could be on tap during Week 8 as Detroit and Atlanta clash at 9:30 AM ET on October 26, 2014, at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Favorites have a solid 7-2 record of covering the spread in the land of Fish & Chips

Detroit Lions: Battling Green Bay in the NFC Central

After opening the NFL 2013 season with a 6-3 record, Detroit suffered a meltdown as they lost six of their last seven games to finish with a 7-9 mark - a mark that hurt. Paraphrasing Seinfeld's Soup Nazi, No playoffs for you Detroit fans - come back - one year! Well, after some major changes to both the coaching and player pools, the Lions have opened at 5-2 and own the first place tie-breaker in the NFC Central over Green Bay who they beat 19-7 in Week 3. While the offense, that hasn't had a healthy Calvin Johnson all season, hasn't lit anyone up, the Cats defense has been lights out. The Lions D ranks sixth versus the pass and third against the run and has given up just 15 points per game. Detroit pulled out a dramatic 24-23 win over New Orleans at home at Ford Field during Week 7 action.

Atlanta Falcons: New Continent won't help road challenged Falcons

A promising 2-1 start is now a 2-5 nightmare for Atlanta. Since their 56-14 bashing of the Buccaneers in Week 3 Thursday Night prime time action, the Falcons have lost four in a row by a 127-68 final count. Atlanta has lost eleven of their last twelve road games and while they stomped the Lions 31-18 on the road in Detroit in 2012 - that was in a dome where QB Matt Ryan is most comfortable. Atlanta was 13-3 that year while the Lions were 4-12 and this game will be played on a mostly grass surface in the partially domed Wembley Stadium. Both teams play their home games in a domed stadium so the venue is a draw and the weather (61 and sunny) is forecast to be fantastic in the UK - seriously? Atlanta is travelling for a second straight game as they were blitzed 29-7 in Baltimore last weekend.

Lions vs. Falcons Prediction: As was the case last week, we can't get past how bad the Atlanta defense is (29th pass - 27th run) and they continue to take hits to their O-Line as third stringer James Stone will start at center against the vaunted Lions pass rush. We like that Detroit stole a win they really should not have last weekend as that should keep them grounded and focused as look to hit their bye week with a 6-2 record and still in first place overall in the NFC Central.
