Chiefs Seek To End Half Century Drought

The Kansas City Chiefs have gone 50 years without a Super Bowl appearance but the NFL Conference Championship Odds 2020 suggest that drought will finally end this season. The Chiefs are solid favorites at home over the visiting Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game.

Neither of these teams own a rich history of success in the Vegas odds NFL conference championships. Kansas City is 0-2 in AFC Championship Games. Both of the Chiefs’ trips to the Super Bowl came as an AFL team prior to the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

Kansas City lost 35-10 to Green Bay in 1967 in Super Bowl 1 and defeated the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl 4 in 1970.

The Titans are 1-1 in the AFC Championship Game. Tennesee beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 33-14 in 1999 but lost to the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers are playing in their 16th NFC Championship game. San Fran is 6-9 all-time. The Packers own a 3-4 slate in the NFC title game. Green Bay also earned two Super Bowl trips as NFL champs prior to the merger.

AFC Championship: Tennessee Titans (+7.5) at Kansas City Chiefs

AFCChmpionship

The Chiefs spotted the Houston Texans a 24-0 lead in last week’s AFC Divisional Round game before roaring back with a 51-7 run to win 51-31. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes became the first quarterback to pass for five touchdowns and 500 yards and rush for 50 yards in an NFL playoff game.

The Titans will seek to counter KC’s explosive offense with the power running game of Derrick Henry. He led the NFL in rushing this season with 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns. He’s gone over 180 yards on the ground in each of the last three games, an NFL first.

So far in the playoffs, Tennessee has defeated the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense (New England Patriots) and No. 1 scoring offense (Baltimore Ravens). The only other teams to do that in the postseason were the 1988 49ers and 2004 Patriots, and both won the Super Bowl. The Titans are 9-3 since Ryan Tannehill replaced Marcus Mariota as starting QB.

The Chiefs are 7-0 since a 35-32 loss to the Titans. Tennessee has won four straight from the Chiefs, including the last three games at KC.

NFC Championship: Green Bay Packers (+7) at San Francisco 49ers

49ers

The 49ers displayed no signs of rust as they rolled past the Minnesota Vikings 27-10 in the NFC Divsional Round playoffs following a first-round bye. San Francisco opened the season at odds of +4500 to win the Super Bowl but the Niners are now listed as second favorites behind the Chiefs (+140) at odds of +165.

San Francisco is the NFL’s No. 4 offense (381.1 yards per game) and No. 2 defense (281.8 ypg) this season. The 49ers held the Vikings to 147 yards of total offense in their playoff opener.

As a home favorite in the Vegas odds NFL conference championships, San Franciso is 4-4 straight up and 3-5 against the spread. As a road underdog in the NFC Championship Game, the Packers are 0-3 straight up and 1-2 against the spread.

The 49ers dumped Green Bay 37-8 in San Francisco earlier this season. The Niners have won three of their last four home games against Green Bay, as well as three of the last four playoff meetings between the two teams.
