National Championship 2020: A Clash Of The Tigers

It’s about as safe a bet as you can make on the 2020 National Championship odds – the Tigers are going to be the national champions. There can’t be any other outcome, since it’s the No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers and defending national champion Clemson Tigers (No. 3), slated to meet in the final on Jan. 13 at the Merecedez-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Clemson A Solid Underdog Wager

The 2020 national championship odds mark the fifth straight game that a team from the SEC is favored to win the College Football Playoff title game. But those SEC teams are 2-2 straight up and 0-4 against the spread in the title games. LSU is 9-3-2 against the spread this season.

Clemson is used to being an underdog in the national championship game. The Tigers were five-point underdogs to Alabama last year and won outright 44-16. They also won over the Crimson Tide as 6.5-point underdogs in 2017.

Clemson is a reliable play in the odds to win a national championship. The Tigers are 3-0 against the spread in national championship games.

LSU A Dominant Juggernaut

LSU

The Tigers flexed their muscles against No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl, scoring a lopsided 63-28 victory. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner, threw for an NCAA bowl game-record seven touchdowns and 493 yards in the win over the Sooners. Burrow also ran for a TD.

He leads the NCAA with 55 TD passes. Burrow is just the fifth QB in NCAA history to pass for over 50 TDs and 5,000 yards in a season.

LSU beat the #5 Georgia Bulldogs 37-10 in the SEC title game. The Tigers also show victories against #9 Florida (42-28), #12 Auburn (23-20), and #13 Alabama (46-41).

Clemson Just Keeps On Winning

Clemson

Clemson has won 29 games in a row. The Tigers are 25-0 straight up and 19-6 against the spread with sophomore Trevor Lawrence at quarterback. This will be the first time they’ve been an underdog in a game since last season’s national championship odds against Alabama.

Clemson rallied from a 16-0 deficit to beat No. 2 Ohio State 29-23 in the Fiesta Bowl. The Tigers are 8-1 against the spread in their last nine games. However, they’ve only faced two ranked teams all season long – the Buckeyes and the No. 24 Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC Championship Game.

The Tigers may not beat LSU outright but they are a reliable against the spread wager.
