The Pegasus was first run in 2017. It takes its name from a 100-foot-tall statue looming over the Gulfstream Park racetrack, entitled Pegasus and Dragon. In its short history, great modern horses like Gun Runner and Arrogate have won the race. Knicks Go won its fifth edition in 2021, and he returns to try to become the first horse to win the race twice.
Will Knicks Go repeat, or will someone new usurp the crown? Read on to find out!

Once you have read the reviews and made your account at the site whose bonuses suit you best, you are ready to start handicapping the Pegasus World Cup. Let’s get to know the contenders:
Pegasus World Cup Favorites
Well-bet horses typically win the Pegasus World Cup. In five editions of the race, all of its winners have either been the favorite or the second favorite on the tote board come post time. The top two choices in the market in this year’s Pegasus World Cup are clear: defending champion #1 Knicks Go will be the chalk, and challenger #4 Life Is Good will be second in the market.
Knicks Go can get the mile and an eighth and is already a winner over the Gulfstream Park course in this race a year ago. However, he can run into trouble if he has to work too hard early, with real miler speed that pushes him and stays on. And, when Knicks Go does not win, he usually flattens out to finish off the board. It’s feast or famine.
Life Is Good is exactly the kind of horse who can spell trouble for Knicks Go. Life Is Good has that top-class miler speed: fast enough to make the top in a sprint, classy enough to let that speed carry two turns. And, he is drawn outside of Knicks Go, giving him the tactical advantage in the front-end brigade. He has never run a bad race and comes out of a live Pegasus prep in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1). This adds up to a strong winning chance.
Pegasus Price Horses
Though no longshot has won the Pegasus World Cup yet, longshots do often make their way into the exotics. In every edition of the Pegasus World Cup, at least one horse at 10/1 or more has finished in the top three. Some years, longshots have finished both second and third, and even horses north of 30/1 have been able to invade the trifecta!
#8 Endorsed is the most interesting exotics chance in the 2022 Pegasus World Cup. Though many of his recent races have come at one turn, both of his mile and an eighth attempt resulted in second-place finishes in stakes races at Saratoga. He has the tactical speed to be involved from start to finish, and in four starts over the Gulfstream dirt, he has never missed the board.
#3 Stilleto Boy has risen from humble Iowa longshot beginnings to a real Grade 1 horse. He hit the board in a pair of top-level races last year in Southern California, including the mile and an eighth Awesome Again (G1) behind Medina Spirit. With tactical speed and the ability to run well at many different tracks, Stilleto Boy should be ready for another competitive effort.
#5 Empty Tomb may not have won yet at a mile and an eighth, but he certainly has the stamina to factor for exotics: in seven tries at the distance, he has been either second or third five times. His tactical speed should allow him to carve out a fine trip behind the favorites, especially with expert Gulfstream rider Paco Lopez in the irons.
