US Open 2022 Information

  • June 16-19 2022
  • Brookline, Massachusetts
  • The Country Club
  • 156 players
  • 72 holes

This is the first time since 1988 that The Country Club will play host to the US Open when Curtis Strange picked up the victory and held the trophy above his head.

This year John Rahm will be looking to retain the title that he won last year at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California but will face stiff competition from world number one and Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas as everyone looks to prepare for The Open Championship in mid-July with a big, career-defining triumph.

Favorites

John Rahm (+1600)

Rahm is the defending champion in this tournament, but his last performance in a major golf tournament at the PGA Championship last month was very disappointing.

Rahm finished tied for 48th place but currently sits at 5th on tour with 1.99 true total strokes gained per round this season. His win last season, though, will give him great confidence coming into this tournament.

He won the Mexico Open back in April and finished top ten at the recent Memorial Tournament, so the former world number one golf player will consider himself in good form. Could he become the eighth person ever to retain the title?

Rory McIlroy (+1400)

Joint-favorite in some places, but with the best price of +1400 for this competition, could McIlroy finally put an end to his major drought?

He won this competition back in 2011 as a 21-year-old, dominating the field and winning by eight shots, and was also in contention last year before fading away in the final round and ending up in 7th place.

McIlroy finished in eighth at last month's PGA Championship after squandering the first-round lead, but with four straight top 20 finishes and a top ten finish in each of the last three majors, he's edging closer and closer to victory once again. He's set to compete in the RBC Canadian Open the week before this tournament, so a comfortable victory there could affect the odds making it a good chance to get this price early on.

Scottie Scheffler (+1200)

World number one, reigning Masters champion, and a four-time winner in 2022, Scheffler is looking to shrug off the shocking performance he had at the PGA Championship, where he missed the cut and fell flat on his face.

He's coming into the competition as the favorite with almost every bookmaker, but history doesn't seem to be on his side at this tournament, and he could be one to avoid. He did bounce back from that awful showing by almost winning the Charles Schwab Challenge, only losing out to Sam Burns in a playoff.

Scheffler has missed the cut on two of four occasions at the US Open in the past, and the course doesn't tend to suit his game, but he's the world number one for a reason and can't be overlooked too much.

Justin Thomas (+1600)

The reigning PGA Championship holder is now a two-time major winner after his big win last month, and he was a similar price then too. But the US Open hasn't been kind to him in the past, and it will be very difficult for him to claim victory once again.

Thomas has never finished better than eighth in this tournament, but he's second among all golf players coming into this tournament with 2.29 true total strokes gained per round and only second because he missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

He's in good form and riding high on confidence after his major performance in May, so he's certainly one to keep an eye on.

Jordan Spieth win US Open 2022

Jordan Spieth (+2500)

Spieth is in good form coming into this one, and at +2500, there is great value in picking the 2015 champion.

A win at the RBC Heritage, a runner-up position at the Byron Nelson, and a top-seven finish at Colonial mean he is on a roll at the moment and driving the ball impressively. He could be peaking at the perfect time.

After struggling in the first two majors of the year, this could be the one that brings his season to life.

Longshot

Will Zalatoris (+2800)

Nobody on the PGA tour has gained more strokes over the past two years than this man, and he had one hand on the Wanamaker Trophy last month before losing a playoff against Justin Thomas.

Over the last eight majors, he's got five top-eight finishes, including two runner-up results, and despite missing the cut at the 2021 US Open, he is greatly improved on his short game and could be worth a shout here.
