Florida State vs Georgia Tech ACC Championship Clash

Florida State vs Georgia Tech ACC Championship Clash

Defending National Champion Florida Sate aims for a third straight ACC Championship when they face Georgia Tech tonight. The Seminoles, though they are 12-0 and have won 28 straight games, aren't getting much respect as slight favorites over the Yellow Jackets. Game time is slated for 8:00 PM ET on December 6, 2014, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, home of the NFL Carolina Panthers.

NCAAF playoff invitations are on the line today

Three more teams will join the Oregon Ducks and earn a shot to play in the newly formed four-team College Football playoff race once the dust settles after today's action. The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl classics will host semifinal games that lead up to Championship Monday on January 12, 2015, at AT&T Stadium. Florida State will earn their invitation to the "Football Final Four" with a win by any margin over Georgia Tech tonight. Alabama and TCU are also on the verge of joining the party but the Final Four won't officially be announced by the "Gang of 13" selection committee until Sunday.

Seminoles vs. Yellow Jackets Recent History & QB Comparison

FSU scored three rushing TD's as they defeated GT 21-15 in the 2012 ACC title game. Seminoles stud WR Rashad Green (1183 TDS 5 TD) caught nine passes for 82 yards in that contest as a sophomore. The Yellow Jackets main running backs Zach Laskey (748 YDS) and Synjyn Days (686 YDS) who are both seniors now had four combined carries for 16 yards in the title game two years ago. 2013 Heisman Trophy winner FSU QB Jameis Winston had a down sophomore season, and he's a goofball, but he already owns an ACC Championship and a National Championship. GT sophomore Justin Thomas, who is a QB/RB/Handoff machine, is making his first college playoff start after he passed for 1460 yards and 16 TD (4 INT) plus added a team high 861 rushing yards in the regular season.

ACC Title Game Final Thoughts & Prediction

FSU defensive coordinator Charles Kelly was part of the GT coaching staff in the 2012 title game so he is keenly aware of the Yellow jackets "Wish-Bone" style of offense. Even though they don't pass much (670 runs vs 91 passes) the loss of Smelter hurts as his 715 receiving yards (7 TD) was just 36 yards less than the next five GT receivers combined. If Winston has his head screwed on properly - that's a huge edge for FSU. Florida State must be tired of hearing about how poorly they've played - despite racking up win after win. The Gang of 13 will be watching this contest together as a group at the opulent Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, so this is a statement game for the Champs.
