The seconds tennis grand slam tournament of 2023 is finally upon us, and there will be no Rafael Nadal in the running once to defend his championship at the French Open this year.
The Spaniard is the most successful player ever at this tournament with 14 previous wins, but a hip injury means he won't be able to compete this year and a new champion will be crowned.

Carlos Alcaraz - (+140)
With Nadal out of the picture, it's the world number one and current reigning US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz who is the favorite to be victorious at Roland Garros.
The 20-year-old has won 30 of 33 matches this year and comes into this tournament in fantastic form, really breaking onto the scene as the next big thing once the big three are all done.
Alcaraz didn't make it out of the Round of 32 in the Italian Open but that had little impact on his French Open odds. Alcaraz was in peak form with back-to-back singles titles and is looking to improve on last year's quarterfinals loss at Roland Garros after winning his first grand slam at last year's US Open.
He'll look to follow suit of his countryman with success on the clay courts and claim his second title en route to a stunning career.

Novak Djokovic - (+200)
With Roger Federer retired and Rafael Nadal out, Novak Djokovic is the lone representation from the slowly dissolving Big Three of men's tennis. The 35-year-old has yet to show signs of decline, fresh off his record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title at the Aussie Open.
Just two of Djokovic’s Slams have come at the French (2016, 2021), and his 80% win rate on clay is his lowest on any surface, but he will be super motivated to become the most successful men's tennis player of all time.
Djokovic is a dominant force in men’s tennis once again – when he gets a chance to play, that is.
Already in 2023, Djokovic won the Australian Open while barely breaking a sweat. And thanks to the fact that he was forced to skip both the Miami Open and Indian Wells for vaccination reasons, he’s had more time off than most of his peers.
While clay has never been Djokovic’s utmost preferred surface, the Serbian warrior can clearly compete on it. He’s already won the French twice if it isn't Alcaraz then it should be him to win it.
With that said, if they were to meet in a big final I'd prefer to go with the experience and most winningest player ever in Djokovic and he's our tennis pick for the French Open.
Holger Rune - (+700)
Holger Rune is on the rise and has come out of nowhere to become one of the hottest talents in the game. The 20-year-old Dane has climbed to world No. 6 and has been wreaking havoc for tennis’ top talent along the way.
Rune recently punched his ticket to the semis at the Italian Open after taking down Djokovic in three sets, and then beat Casper Ruud in the semi-finals too. He then suffered defeat to Daniil Medvedev in the final in straight sets. Rune is 12-2 on clay this year and will be questing for his first Grand Slam title.
The Dane will look to improve on last year's quarterfinals appearance in his debut at Roland Garros and a strong performance on clay courts has him entering the second gram slam of the year in excellent form.
A win is likely to be a little bit too much too soon, but a couple of shocks elsewhere and he would be right in the mix.

Stefanos Tsitsipas - (+800)
Tsitsipas is a former an Australian Open finalist, but suffered defeat to Medvedev in the straight sets in the Italian Open semis recently in the build up to the tournament.
It would take a brave tennis bettor to risk a big stake on Tsitsipas right now – but the odds make it worth it.
The general theory is that the 24-year-old Greek number one hasn’t fully recovered from that epic final earlier in the year where he blew a two-set lead and he still hasn’t made good on all his early talent.
There’s no doubt that he has an amazing level of talent, and – when he’s in full flow – his one-handed backhand is a joy to watch. But with so many players performing well right now ahead of him, it would be a huge task for him to become a first-time grand slam winner.
