Plant comes into this bout with a near perfect record at 22-1, with his only defeat coming in his last title fight against the almighty and legendary Canelo Alvarez.

Prior to that he had won 21 in a row, with TKO wins over Mike Lee and Vincent Feigenbutz before a unanimous decision win over Caleb Truax in the three immediately prior to that fight.

You can bet on Benavidez to remain undefeated with a best price of -315, meaning you must bet $315 to earn a $100 profit from your bet.

Caleb Plant vs David Benavidez preview

Plant likes to lean forward with his hands low in order to seem like a longer fighter, using his excellent jab to set up strikes and using his high guard and rolls in a similar way to what Floyd Mayweather did during his career. He often leaves his head open to strikes so he can counter his opponent.

Now, this is obviously much easier said than done, but Plant's best chance of securing a victory in this fight is to prioritize his defensive boxing and look to land counters just like 'Money' Mayweather did.

Plant is good with his feet and has a great jab to maintain distance, but he also has the ability to roll well with shots coming towards him which is positive against a power puncher like Canelo.

'Sweet Hands' likes to keep his lead hand low, making his jab difficult to pick up for his opponent and his Philly-style shell defense is decent, but it will need to be more than that on the night.

Plant has struggled in the past with fighters that have fast hands, power, and size and Canelo fits that bill perfectly. His chin has always held up in the past though and his counter-striking is excellent, especially his right cross that he likes to throw straight down the pipe.

From watching Benavidez fight, it’s clear overall he has an aggressive style.  But that’s not to say he doesn’t have other attributes. The man from Phoenix also has good counter punching and quick combination punching, especially considering his size.

However, his larger frame and bullish power are something he relies on a lot to get an advantage over many of his opponents. But he does a very good job by giving his opponents a false sense of comfort and with a two-inch reach advantage in this fight he can implement that well.

Boxing picks: David Benavidez on points

Plant isn't someone who gets hit an awful lot in his fights, as going almost 11 rounds with Canelo proved.

He has great hand speed and decent power, but it's his footwork and angles that make him a fantastic boxer - his volume is always excellent too. Benavidez on the other hand is all about power, with great combinations and hand speed that allow him to put opponents out.

His power becomes null and void if he can't land clean shots regularly though, and that leads me to think this goes the distance.

With that said, he still has got the power advantage and his reach advantage means he needs to use his jab to set up those combinations and stay on the front foot to not allow Plant's footwork to really kick in and take over.

He will land some big shots at some point, no doubt, and in a razor close fight sometimes those eye-catching moments are the difference on the scorecards, so back Benavidez to keep his "0" and earn the win.
