Deiveson Figueiredo defends the men’s belt for the first time and is the -310 favorite to defeat Alex Perez and retain the title. Making his fourth title defense, Valentina Shevchenko is the overwhelming -1400 betting choice to maintain her women’s crown against Jennifer Maia.

  • UFC 255 on Nov. 21 will feature a pair of world title bouts
  • Champion Deiveson Figueiredo is the -310 favorite to defend his men’s flyweight belt against Alex Perez
  • Valentina Shevchenko will defend the women’s flyweight title and is the immense -1400 chalk to retain he crown over Jennifer Maia

Deiveson Figueiredo had to wait for his UFC world flyweight title due to his weight. However, now that he’s won the belt, Figueiredo is solidly favored to keep possession of it at UFC 255. He’s listed as the -310-betting choice over challenger Alex Perez.

Likewise, UFC betting odds don’t foresee Valentina Shevchenko surrendering her women’s flyweight crown. In her fourth title defense, Shevchenko steps into the octagon to face Jennifer Maia. Shevchenko is an overwhelming -1400 favorite to still be wearing the belt at the end of the bout.

The UFC 255 card will be contested Saturday, Nov. 21 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

Finding Figueiredo Opponent Proves Challenging

Originally, the UFC 255 men’s flyweight title bout was to see Figueiredo defend his belt against former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. However, Garbrandt tore a bicep and was forced to drop out. Perez, who was already carded to battle Brandon Moreno at UFC 255, was shifted up to fight for the title against Figueiredo

Certainly, Perez stepping in to replace Moreno has impacted the UFC 255 Vegas odds. This will be the first world title fight for Perez. It’s not the first time that a Figueiredo title bout has involved last-minute alterations.

He was to have battled Joseph Benavidez for the vacant flyweight title. However, Figueiredo failed to make weight. Thus, when he scored a second-round TKO, he was ineligible to wear the crown. In July, the two met again. This time, Figueiredo made weight and claimed the title. He beat Benavidez in the first round by submission via a rear-naked choke.

Whether or not she retains her crown, Shevchenko will be part of UFC history. Her older sister Antonina is also on the card. She’s the -160 favorite in the UFC 255 odds to beat Ariane Lipski in a women’s flyweight bout.

This will be the first time that sisters have ever contested bouts on the same UFC fight card.

Let’s take a look at the complete UFC 255 bout list:

  • Deiveson Figueiredo (-310) vs Alex Perez (+240)
  • Valentina Shevchenko (-1400) vs Jennifer Maia (+740)
  • Brandon Moreno (-190) vs Brandon Royval (+155)
  • Cynthia Calvillo (-170) vs Katlyn Chookagian (+140)
  • Mauricio Rua (+155) vs Paul Craig (-190)
  • Joaquin Buckley (-300) Jordan Wright (+240)
  • Antonina Shevchenko (-160) vs Ariane Lipski (+130)
  • Kyle Daukhaus (-210) vs Dustin Stoltzfus (+170)
  • Alan Jouban (-120) vs Jared Gooden (-110)
  • Orion Cosce (-105) vs Nicolas Dalby (-125)

Deiveson Figueiredo (-310) vs Alex Perez (+240)

Brazilian Figueiredo is 19-1 in his MMA career. He’s won four in a row. In three of those bouts, Figueiredo’s opponent didn’t make it through the second round. Figueiredo is a solid fundamental fighter. He’s won nine times by knockout and seven times via submission.

Californian Perez is a veteran campaigner with a stellar 24-5 career slate in MMA competition and is ranked No. 4 in the UFC flyweight division. At UFC 255, he’s definitely stepping up in class, though. By comparison, Figueiredo has beaten Benavidez in his last two fights, neither of which lasted two full rounds. Two years ago, Perez suffered a first-round TKO loss to Benavidez.

Valentina Shevchenko (-1400) vs Jennifer Maia (+750)

Brazil’s Maia is a heavy underdog entering her first shot at a world title. She pulled off a stunning submission victory over Joanne Calderwood to earn her chance against Shevchenko. Maia is 18-6-1 in MMA but just 3-2 since joining UFC. Prior to her win over Calderwood, she lost a unanimous decision to Katlyn Chookagian.

Chookagian suffered a third-round TKO loss to Shevchenko when the two met for the UFC flyweight title in February. There’s a reason why Shevchenko is such an outlandish favorite in the UFC Vegas odds. She’s a dominant force, 8-2 in UFC. Shevchenko has never lost as a flyweight. Both of her defeats were to world champ Amanda Nunes in bantamweight.

Joaquin Buckley (-300) vs Jordan Wright (+230)

Buckley is the flavor of the month in UFC. He delivered a spectacular finishing move in his last bout. Buckley’s spin kick KO’d Impa Kasanganay in a middleweight bout at UFC Fight Island 5 on Oct. 10.

However, Buckley is just 1-1 in the UFC. He absorbed a knockout loss at the hands of Kevin Holland in his UFC debut. So, was his win over Kasanganay a lucky shot, or is Buckley the real deal?

Wright is no slouch. He’s 11-0 in MMA and has never been required to go the distance. Wright shows six knockouts and five submissions on his resume.

This bout looks like a sensational upset play.
