The All-star game is almost always a low scoring affair, with players preferring to try different things and have a bit of fun, while substitutions are usually rampant throughout the game.
Four of the last five games have gone under the current total of 8.5 total runs and with hitters usually unfamiliar with the pitchers, it's usually a pretty tense duel that presents itself in this game.
The best hitters in baseball failed to scratch together eight runs in MLB’s most extreme offensive environment, so it’s hard to envision them doing so at a more pitching-friendly setting like Dodger Stadium.
With so many substitutions, these games tend to be close, lower-scoring affairs. For example, the last eight games have all been decided by three runs or less, while only one of the previous 15 contests has produced double-digit runs.
Aaron Judge to win MVP
He's already set up to win the MVP award for the 2022 MLB regular season, and if he carries that form into this game then he'll almost certainly be the MVP for the all-star game too.
Since we’re expecting the American League to win, it follows that the All-Star Game MVP will come from the AL side.
In that case, it’s hard to do better than Judge. While Ohtani is slightly favored over him, he’s not going to pitch so that removes a big chunk of his value.
The 30-year-old Yankees slugger has been absolutely unbelievable at the plate this year, leading the MLB in home runs with 33, runs scored with 74, and total bases with a whopping 209.
He’s also coming into the contest on fire after mashing three homers in his final four games before the break. He's up there with the favorites as expected, but at +550 there is tremendous value in backing him to get the job done.
