MLB Futures: Dodgers Favored To Repeat

MLB Futures: Dodgers Favored To Repeat

MLB Betting Predictions for the 2021 Season

The MLB futures are forecasting history to repeat itself. The Los Angeles Dodgers are the +325 favorites to win the World Series, just as they did in 2020. This will also require history to be made. While the Dodgers have won the World Series seven times and been to the Fall Classic on 21 occasions, often in consecutive years, the ball club has never won back-to-back titles.

  • The reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers are +325 favorites to win the 2021 World Series in the MLB futures
  • Los Angeles has never won back-to-back World Series titles
  • The 27-time champion New York Yankees have the shortest odds among American League teams at +550

Major League Baseball is getting back to normal, or as close to normal as is possible in the world of the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan is for a regular 162-game season in 2021. Since the Canada-USA border remains closed, the Toronto Blue Jays will be playing games out of their spring training facility in Dunedin, Fla. If the Florida heat becomes too oppressive, the team will relocate to Buffalo for the remainder of the season, or at least until the border reopens.

Other than that, oddsmakers appear to be anticipating that the outcome of this season will look very much like the shortened 60-game MLB season of a year ago. The Los Angeles Dodgers were much the best team last season and online betting sites are projecting them to fill that role again in the MLB baseball odds during the 2021 campaign. The Dodgers are favored at virtually every betting site to win the 2021 World Series. Most sites gave the Dodgers an opening line of +325 in the MLB future odds, although MyBookie has them as short as +300 to win it all.

Interestingly, the team given the best chance of toppling the Dodgers as National League champions is situated in the NL West Division with LA. The San Diego Padres are the second betting choice among NL clubs, with odds as short as +725.

Among American League teams, the perenially-contending New York Yankees are offered the best chance in the baseball odds at +550. There isn't as much faith in the reigning AL champion Tampa Bay Rays, however. After seeing 40 percent of the club's starting rotation depart in Charlie Morton and former Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, Tampa Bay is offered at a betting line of +1700 in the MLB Vegas odds.

Dodgers Have It All Going For Them

Pitching. Hitting. Defense. Depth. Go down the list of required elements to win a championship and you can check off the Dodgers in every category.

Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger have both been MVPs. Clayton Kershaw is a multiple Cy Young Award winner and doesn't forget, former Cy Young winner David Price is back after opting out of last season.

Going with the same team to win in the baseball picks isn't sexy, or often accurate, but maybe since no MLB team has repeated as World Series champs since 2000, picking the same team is actually going against the grain?

Yankees Are Overdue

By failing to get to the World Series in 2019, for the first time in the storied history of the Bronx Bombers, they went through an entire decade without making a single appearance in the Fall Classic. The last time the Yankees won the World Series was in 2009. That was also the last time they played in a World Series.

The Yanks aren't merely due in the MLB Vegas odds, they're overdue. If Gerrit Cole can finally win the Cy Young, if Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge can stay healthy and if Aroldis Chapman can pitch in the postseason as he does during the regular season, perhaps this is the year that the Yankees finally get it done.

Sleepers Worthy Of Consideration

The Padres have Fernando Tatis Jr., the game's most exciting young player. In the offseason, they added Snell and Yu Darvish to their pitching staff and bolstered their bullpen. They could win 100 games, though, and still finish second to the Dodgers in the NL West.

Likewise, the Toronto Blue Jays run deep in young talent. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. trimmed down in the winter and appears ready to seriously pursue matching his father's Hall of Fame legacy. Hyun-Jin Ryu is a Cy Young contender. The Jays went out and got outfielder George Springer, who's won a World Series, and infielder Marcus Semien, who owns the postseason experience.
