The Masters 2023 favorites

Below you'll find a list of the favorites to win The Masters 2023 golf tournament.

Scottie Scheffler - (+775)

There is simply no denying the fact that Scheffler is the best golf player in the world right now, and as such he is rightly entered as the favorite to win this tournament.

The 2022 Masters champ successfully defended his title in Phoenix in February and added to his trophy case with a victory at the PLAYERS in March and remarkably hasn’t finished outside of the top 15 in an event since last October.

The Texan is a world-class striker of the golf ball and his consistency is unmatched across the tour. He possesses immaculate touch around the greens which is essential on this course, and although his putter can be hit or miss, it always feels like he makes the putts he needs the most.

It would be a historic victory and with his form coming into this, it simply can't be ruled out.

Rory McIlroy - (+775)

McIlroy leads all golfers in this field in strokes gained: off-the-tee and SG: total over everyone's last 12 measured rounds. He also ranks first by a mile in distance off the tee. With poor weather and soft fairways expected, it's McIlroy's play off the tee that could well lead him to his first Green Jacket and the long-awaited (and anticipated) career grand slam.

McIlroy will be in the Thursday afternoon-Friday morning draw to get the best of the weather forecast, and while he will have to overcome this Majors curse that has plagued his career (he hasn't won a major since 2014) a lot of things are going in his favor in the build up to this tournament.

He came close in 2022 at Augusta, logging a second-place finish at -7-under-par behind Scheffler, who won at 10-under-par. It's important to note that McIlroy was +1 through the first three rounds but closed on a dominant -8-under-par round on Sunday. If he can do similar, he surely won't be unsuccessful again.

Jon Rahm - (+1000)

Considering the fact that he has won five times in 12 starts since December, there is no reason why he can't win a second major.

The fiery Spaniard is an incredibly long driver of the ball, an elite long iron player, with a much improved short game this season, and an immaculate track record at Augusta National. His previous best performance in The Masters saw him finish 4th in 2018.

Rahm remains the only player in this field to boast wins at Kapalua, Riviera, and Muirfield Village, and the logical next progression for the World No. 2 is a green jacket.

There really isn't much between the top three favorites with the bookies, so the fact you can get such good value on Rahm makes him a very intelligent bet.

Xander Schauffele - (+2500)

Schauffele is off to a bit of a sluggish start to 2023 and that may be attributed to a bit of a back issue that he had at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He’s had three top-10 finishes in 2023, but he hasn’t really been in contention for a win just yet, but that could all change here at Augusta.

We know Schauffele has the game for Augusta National. He has two top-three finishes with one being at the 2021 event where he held the lead on the back nine before a water ball at the par-3 16th.

He really showed some elite form at the Match Play event, battling back and forth in his match with Rory McIlroy in the quarter finals. Either player could have won, and it was great play by both players through the final hole.

If he can carry that form into this week, then there is every chance he puts the pressure on the favorites and causes an upset to win his first major.

Cameron Smith - (+2700)

After finishing in the top 10 four of the last five years, Smith’s Masters record speaks for itself. He has posted three top-five finishes in that span but just hasn’t been able to close the deal on Sunday. He's better now than he's ever been though.

Those results make plenty of sense because his game is perfectly suited for Augusta. A sometimes errant driver is welcomed with wide fairways, while his immaculate, imaginative short game and putting ability help him tame the greens a la Jordan Spieth.

His LIV form has been so-so, but the confidence of having a major championship victory under his belt will go a long way. He won The Open Championship in 2022 and will want to feel that rush again, so don't rule him despite his high price.
