Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin Betting Odds

  • Canelo Alvarez (-555)
  • Gennady Golovkin (+400)

This is one of the most highly anticipated trilogy bouts in recent memory and is sure to be an absolutely brilliant boxing fight. It's not expected to be particularly close, though, with the odds having the current champion as the overwhelming favorite.

With an unbelievable professional record of 57-2-2, with 39 knockout wins in his career, becoming a world champion in four different weight classes and becoming undisputed in three of them, including being the only man ever to become undisputed at super middleweight.

Since the first two fights between these fighters, Canelo has gone 7-1 with wins over Rocky Fielding (TKO), Daniel Jacobs (UD), Sergey Kovalev (KO), Callum Smith (UD), Avni Yildirim (RTD), Billy Joe Saunders (RTD), Caleb Plant (TKO) and most recently a defeat to Dmitry Bivol (UD) up at light heavyweight.

Golovkin, on the other hand, has gone 4-0 since the second fight against Canelo back in 2018, with wins over Steve Rolls (KO), Sergiy Dereviyanchenko (UD), Kamil Szeremeta (RTD), and Ryoto Murata (TKO).

That has seen his professional record move to a phenomenal 42-1-1 with 37 knockout victories and means he will be very keen to get his win back over Canelo to really settle the score.

Canelo vs. Golovkin boxing preview

If anyone has ever watched a Canelo Alvarez bout, you know that he is tremendous at working in the pocket, softening up the body with vicious and violent bodywork that will either stop the fight or drop his opponent’s hands to open up vicious combinations to the head.

This will be a point of defense that Golovkin must be careful with as he has been targeted to the body in his more recent bouts, which appeared to cause some fatigue.

Golovkin does have one of the very best jabs in boxing, though, which allows him to maintain the space between himself and his opponent and stop those attacks to some degree, Canelo is a master of closing that distance and crushing rib cages with his shots.

Age could be the deciding factor in terms of conditioning as these two warriors meet for the third time. GGG will be 40 when they step in the ring, while Canelo will be 32 despite having more professional fights on his record than most people retire with.

The Mexican is faster and more powerful right now, while Golovkin is visibly beginning to slow down, and that should lead to a more dominant victory on the night for him to finally settle their rivalry.

Canelo to get the win

Let's not get it twisted, this is a trilogy bout that is much deserved because it should be 1-1 between them after GGG was robbed in the first fight between them.

The second was more convincing from Canelo as he learned from his mistakes and applied more pressure to earn the nod on the judge's scorecards deservedly 115-113, 115-113, 114-114. But since then, both fighters have shown different levels of ability and the Mexican is certainly the better man now.

Canelo has been pushing through the weight classes and dominating up until his recent loss to Bivol, another world-class operator who was just too big for him on the night. But GGG is smaller naturally, and that will have an effect for sure when he needs to take those ferocious body shots and gets leaned on as the fight progresses.

Whatever you say about Golovkin, he could rival a few of the boxers with one of the greatest chins in boxing history.

He has never been dropped or stopped in any fight he had in the paid ranks or the amateurs. And while Canelo has clear power and could go to the body to try and score the stoppage, I don’t see him landing the knockout.

Another decision wins, but a clear and more decisive scorecard and a boxing masterclass is the most likely route here, and at +110, it should provide good value for you too.
