Is he going to be able to get the job done once again? It wasn't long ago that Rory McIlroy shocked everyone by winning The Masters for the first time. Now, there's a bit of a homecoming on the way, as the Open Championship is taking place in Northern Ireland this week. Is their magic in the air? We think so, which is why Rory McIlroy is our pick to win the 2025 Open Championship.
Indeed, McIlroy is probably still riding quite high after he did the unthinkable at Augusta not too long ago. The images of him draining the winning putt and then collapsing to the ground to celebrate is still fresh for a lot of fans - it was also a reminder that he's still one of the best players on the planet and he has what it takes to win yet another major.

"It was all relief,” McIlroy said earlier this year after his The Masters triumph. “And then, you know, the joy came pretty soon after that. But that was — I've been coming here 17 years, and it was a decade-plus of emotion that came out of me there
According to the best online sports betting sites, McIlroy holds +750 odds to win the Open Championship this weekend, which is of course also known as the British Open. With so many of his friends and family ready to cheer him on, it could prove to be a weekend to remember for McIlroy. We're confident he'll be able to take down the rest of the field and lift the trophy high into the sky come Sunday.
Even after missing the cut at Royal Portrush in 2019, Northern Ireland native Rory McIlroy was “overwhelmed by the support.”

Scottie Scheffler is actually the favorite to win the 2025 Open Championship
While a lot of people think that McIlroy will come out on top here, keep in mind Scottie Scheffler is the favorite to win the 2025 Open Championship. This shouldn't come as a stunner, as Scheffler has plenty of title wins under his belt and he's ranked the No. 1 player in the world. Because of this, plenty of analysts think he'll be able to come out on top. With his humble mindset, he's a golfer to keep an eye on.
"You know, life goes on," Scheffler said leading up to the tourney. "It's great to be able to win tournaments and to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf ... it brings tears to my eyes just to think about, because I’ve literally worked my entire life. To become good at the sport and to have that kind of sense of accomplishment is a pretty cool feeling. You know, to get to live out your dreams is very special."
"I love putting in the work. I love getting to practice. I love getting to live out my dreams. But at the end of the day, sometimes I just don't understand the point."

Keep in mind that the top-rated sportsbooks feature a ton of incredible specials and promotions for you to take advantage of. This of course includes the unreal BetOnline sign up bonus and codes. There's no better time than now to take a look, especially with the British Open right around the corner.
Back to the action on the links, Scheffler has been given +450 odds per the best golf betting sites. He's the clear favorite and the expectation is that he's going to put up more memorable performances in the coming days. While we won't be surprised if he does end up winning it all, we're going with our gut, which is why we're doubling down with McIlroy as our pick.
Jon Rahm and others are ready to make noise at the Open Championship too
While a lot of people are ready to see McIlroy and Scheffler battle it out for the glory, don't forget that Jon Rahm and others are ready to make noise at the Open Championship too. Rahm is a true superstar and he's such an easy golfer to root for.
He's always going to be someone to keep an eye on from start to finish in a tourney. Elsewhere, people are talking about Xander Schauffele, who won this tournament last year. Schauffele was excellent on the final round in 2024, shooting a 65.
That performance in the final day helped him come out on top by two strokes. He's set to try and defend his crown, which of course is going to be a tall task for him. All in all, it should be a weekend to remember for everyone participating. Rahm, Schauffele and more participants will give it their all. In the end, look for Rory to post the win.
