Houston vs Seattle: Astros Have Dominated The Mariners
Astros produce a solid response to adversity test
Cruising along with a solid 34-20 record on June 3, Houston had a problem as they lost seven straight contests. The skid saw the Astros AL West lead shrink from six games over the LA Angels to just two games over the red hot Texas Rangers. Houston’s previous high losing streak was three games and many wondered how they would rebound from the adversity. Just fine is the answer as the Astros have won six of their last seven contests including two of three against the Mariners last weekend.
Mediocre Mariners have been mauled in five of their last eight games
Better results were expected in Seattle this season. The Mariners sit 8.5 games behind the ‘Stros and their 30-37 record is just two games clear of the AL West cellar dwelling Oakland Athletics. Seattle was outscored by a 42-2 margin during their last five loses and four contests were shutouts including 10-0 and 13-0 blowouts in Houston. Sandwiched in, Seattle won 8-1 to avoid a Lone Star State sweep and they split a four game series at home against the stumbling San Francisco Giants. Only Philadelphia has produced less runs than the 225 scored by Seattle who have a .233 team batting average.
Houston Astros vs Seattle Mariners MLB Prediction: We like the Astros pitching advantage here as RHP Lance McCullers (3-1 ERA 2.00) faces Roenis Elias (3-4 ERA 3.67) in the battle on the bump. McCullers didn’t allow a run or a hit and gave up four walks while recording four strikeouts over five innings during Houston’s 13-0 win last Saturday. Elias took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. Hesitant to give up runs with road teams, we are aligning with the Astros and a 500 unit wager on the money line price posted at the BetOnline sportsbook.
