How To Bet On AFC East

As sure as death and taxes, you can pretty much lock in the New England Patriots annually as champions of the AFC East, and until Tom Brady starts to show his age, or Bill Belichick shows a sudden disinterest in winning, you shouldn’t foresee that reality changing anytime in the near future. Entering the 2017 NFL season, the Patriots have posted more regular-season (476), playoff (32) and Super Bowl (five) wins than any team in the division. New England won 13 of 14 AFC East crowns between 2003-16. [+]

The Patriots have won more Super Bowls than the rest of the division combined (three) and have gone to at least the AFC Championship Game every year since 2011.

Elsewhere, consistency is the hobgoblin of the Buffalo Bills, who have changed coaches yet again, looking to shore up their chances of ending an NFL-long playoff drought that extends back to 1999. The Miami Dolphins earned a wildcard playoff spot in 2016 and might be the only team with any hope of giving the Patriots a run for their money. As for the New York Jets, they won their most recent AFC East title in 2002 and haven’t been to the big game since Super Bowl III.

How To Win AFC East Bets

Although the Buffalo Bills were only 7-9 in 2016 and missed the playoffs for the 17th straight season, the Bills are a team to watch in total wagering. Buffalo was 12-4 in over/under wagering, and a perfect 8-0 at home. Likewise, the Miami Dolphins were also 12-4 in the over/under, and 7-1 at home.

Despite a 14-2 record and a perfect 8-0 slate on the road, the New England Patriots were a total disaster when it came to total wagers in 2016, a dismal 6-10 overall, including a 2-6 road mark. No matter how you bet it, the New York Jets weren’t a wise wager, going 5-11 overall, 6-8-2 against the spread and 7-9 on the total.

Since 1995 just one AFC East team has appeared in the Super Bowl, but they’ve been a fairly regular visitor. The Patriots have appeared in an NFL-leading nine Super Bowls, going 5-4 in the big game. Eight of those appearances have come since 1996 and in that time period New England is the only NFL team to appear in consecutive Super Bowls and to win consecutive Super Bowls.

All four AFC East teams have played in the Super Bowl and three of them have won the big game, although none but New England since 1974. The Dolphins won Super Bowl VII and VIII, while the Jets were the winners in Super Bowl III, the first time the AFL had defeated the NFL in a Super Bowl.

Although the Bills have never won a Super Bowl, they remain the only team in NFL history to play in four successive Super Bowls.
