How To Bet On Colorado Rockies

The Rockies enter the 2016 season with a big question mark hanging over their team. Colorado lost one of baseball’s top shortstops in Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays in free agency. Tulowitzki or “Tulo” as he was called by his teammates, was the face of the franchise since 2010 when he made his first All-Star team. The Rockies decided that he was expendable given his older age (31) and injury-plagued 2015 season (only 87 games played) so in his place will be the new era of Colorado sluggers.

Online Tips For Colorado Rockies Bettors

The first in line to take over Tulowitzki’s place will be third baseman Nolan Arenado. The 25-year old already enjoyed his best year to date in 2015 by notching the title as the NL’s RBI leader (130) and co-leader in home runs (42).

Arenado led Colorado in every major hitting category aside from batting average in 2015 and notched his third straight Gold Glove award for his nifty fielding at third base.

Joining the newly appointed face of the franchise will be fan favorite, Carlos Gonzalez. Gonzalez has been with the Rockies since 2009 and is a former NL batting champion, Gold Glove winner and All-Star. Gonzalez’s production has not leveled off either as he knocked in 40 home runs last year to earn his second Silver Slugger award. In 2015, Gonzalez changed from his normal left field spot to take over as the regular right fielder for the Rockies. The Rockies return their entire starting outfield which was huge production-wise in 2015.

Centerfielder Charlie Blackmon played a team-high 157 games last season and was second on the team in at-bats (614) to Arenado. He and Gonzalez are the strength of the outfield, but for the Rockies need leftfielder Brandon Barnes to pick up the slack from this lackluster 2015 (.251 average and 17 RBIs) to be truly deadly.

Colorado features a young core of hitters that can hang with the best in the NL West, but their pitching staff needs to catch up. The Rockies are closing the gap though. After the first month of April in 2016 they were only game out of the lead for the division.

While the Rockies feature some lethal bats, their pitching rotation leaves something to be desired. Jorge De La Rosa was the best bet statistically last season by leading the team in wins (9-7 record), strikeouts by a wide margin (134) and had the lowest ERA (4.17).

De La Rosa was the most solid of the rotation, but he still was not a sure thing. Beyond De La Rosa, the rest of the rotation is a mystery. Chris Rusin had some bright spots but his 6-10 record was one of the worst on the team. Your next best option for a solidified starter on the Colorado would be Chad Bettis. The 27-year old was the only other Rockies pitcher that had a winnning record in 2015 at 8-6.

Bettis and De La Rosa did have an above-average ERAs in 2015 at 4.23 and 4.17, respectively, but the Rockies having one of the better offenses in the National League makes them somewhat of a viable option in shootouts.

The Rockies notched winning records against some of the weaker teams in the NL like the Braves, Phillies and Brewers. They were also able to upend the usually strong San Francisco Giants to the tune of an 11-8 record so do they have the ability to knock off some stronger teams.

With betting on the Rockies, one should be advised to pick and choose your spots. Colorado has some pop in their lineup, but they do lack some consistency to be top-flgiht team. The Rockies were incredibly mediocre at times in 2015, finishing with a 68-94. Colorado has a young core to make up some space in the division, but it might not be this season.
