How To Bet On New York Mets

In what was New York’s finest season since their World series run in 2000, the Mets returned to the championship game in 2015 and won their first National League East division title since 2006. Buoyed by one of the strongest pitching rotations in baseball, the Mets were the darlings of the “Big Apple” and were nearly able to notch the franchise’s first World Series since 1986. Unfortunately, New York ran into a tough Kansas City team in the World Series and fell in five games. [+]

A lack of consistent hitting and some wear and tear on the pitching rotation was the Mets’ undoing in the final series of the year, but they are primed and ready to go for 2016 — the 30-year anniversary of the last time the Mets won a championship.

The strongest part of the Mets lineup is their pitching staff, which might be the best in all of Major League Baseball. New York features four pitchers that could potentially be the number one starter for most teams in the Majors.

While it is somewhat unclear who is the best Mets pitcher, going off last season’s stats, Jacob deGrom would have the edge. In his best season to date, deGrom was 14-8 with an ERA of 2.54. Behind him in the rotation is Matt “The Dark Knight” Harvey. While Harvey has struggled at times in 2016, the 2013 All-Star and 2015 NL Comeback PLayer of the Year is a force on the mound. Speaking of forces, the Mets also feature possibly the most physically gifted pitcher in baseball, Noah Syndergaard. The 23-year old has earned the nickname of “Thor” for not only his flowing blonde locks but for his tremendous heat from the mound.

The final piece to the young rotation of under 27-year olds is 24-year-old Steven Matz. The young flamethrower was 4-0 during his debut season in 2015 and could be the main reason the Mets challenge for the title in 2016. An X-Factor on the Mets pitching staff is closer Jeurys Familia. The 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic tied the franchise record for most saves in a season with 43, but blew a couple of save opportunities in the postseason that could have pushed New York to a title. For the Mets to continue their rise, they need Familia to be locked and loaded.

Online Tips For New York Mets Bettors

While the Mets pitching rotation is one of the finest in the MLB, the batting order crucial for New York to have any chance of taking home a title. With the loss of 2015 NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy, the Mets have some work to do to find another consistent bat in their rotation.

However, New York dodged a major bullet in the 2015 offseason when slugger Yoenis Cespedes decided to renew his contract and return to the team. Before hitting a rough patch in the latter stages of the season, Cespedes was having a monster season. Even though the slugger missed over 100 games, he was still third on the team in home runs (17) and fifth in RBIs (44). A healthy Cespedes is a vital part if the Mets are to retain the divisional crown.

Losing their leader in RBIs and batting average from last season will not be easy for the Mets to replace but they have some servicable bats that are returning in 2016. Chief among them are crafty veterans David Wright and Curtis Granderson. The former, known as “Mr. Met”, was last named an All-Star in 2013 and is a huge part of the Mets leadership core.

Wright was having another solid year in 2015 but was placed on the 60-day disabled list for spinal stenosis. He was able to return for the postseason. Granderson was the most consistent Met in 2015 as he played the most games (157) and could be relied on in most situations.

The Mets had one of the best divisional records in all of baseball last season. New York was a combined 47-29 against their rivals, which should bode well in 2016. Speaking of 2016, through mid-May, New York was duking it out with expected top dog Washington and suprising upstart Philadelphia for first in the division. While the Phillies might fall off near the end of the year, the Nats and Mets race will probably go down to the wire.
