The long-time foe of both the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, the New Jersey Devils are another franchise in the Metropolitan Division that has won multiple Stanley Cups in their history. While the Devils struggled in their first five years after the Colorado Rockies relocated to New Jersey, the franchise would go on to claim titles in 1995, 2000 and 2003. New Jersey was initially known as a defense-first team during their contention years but have shifted to a more offensive style. In fact, after goalie Cory Schneider, New Jersey’s forwards are the strength of this team.
New Jersey is led by defenseman and team captain Andy Greene, along with center/winger Adam Henrique and center Travis Zajac. The addition of 2010 first overall NHL draft pick Taylor Hall from Edmonton in a 2016 trade only served to solidify the Devils’ top-six forwards.
New Jersey Devils Next Game
Keeping in mind the the next game up for the Devils, you can give yourself an advantage by keying in on rivalries and also home or away matchups.
New Jersey Devils Regular Season Schedule
Like their other Metro Division foes, the Devils are consistently scheduled against teams that make it hard for them to string together consecutive wins. Since the division features the Penguins, Rangers and Flyers, the Devils need to play consistently well to have any chance at the playoffs.
If you are looking to bet on New Jersey this season, they are a good dark horse bet if they are at home but make sure to be leery of any trap games from Eastern Conference foes. Additionally, the Devils have not won a division title since 2010 when they were still part of the Atlantic Division, so while they can still contend for a playoff berth, they are not a team that will finish near the top of the division.
New Jersey Devils Standings
The Devils are the sort of team that will hang around in playoff contention, but can’t quite seem to turn push into shove and get over the hump when the games matter the most.
The stellar goaltending of Cory Schneider will keep them in games they have no right winning and that’s something to consider when contemplating a wager on a Devils game.
