The Houston Texans compete in the AFC South division of the NFL, and have done so since 2002 when the NFL expanded to 32 teams. They are not the first team from Houston, that honor goes to the Houston Oilers who moved to Nashville, Tennessee and became the Tennessee Titans. It was not the best inaugural seasons for the Texans as they finished 4-12 to finish bottom of AFC South. The next four seasons were losing seasons, especially 2005 when the Texans went 2-14, a terrible record that they repeated in 2013.
In both 2007 and 2008, the Texans went 8-8 before finishing top of the AFC South in 2011 and 2012 with 10-6 and 12-4 records.
The Texans topped AFC South in 2015 with a 9-7 record, thanks in part to a superb defence. However, that defence crumbled in the Wild Card Playoffs when they lost 30-0 to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Part of that, usually, excellent defence is J.J. Watt, who many consider to be the best player in the NFL. The Defensive End is a phenomenal player, and the hot favorite (at +400) to be crowned the NFL Defensive Player of the Year this coming season.
Watt was responsible for 17.5 sacks in 2015, had 76 combined tackles, and caused three forced fumbles. The 6’ 5”, 289lbs 27-year-old is a major asset to the Texans.

That same defence only allowed 19.6 points per game on average, showing they are a strong unit, as any team would be that had J.J. Watt lined up in it.
The Texans offense is what let them down a little last season, and part of the reason they finished 9-7 and not better. They were 10th in Net Total Yards, partly because a low passing yardage, and they averaged a total of 21.2 points per game.
These offense and defense points per game show that many of the Texans games were closely fought, so look carefully for the spread offered by bookmakers if you are thinking of making a wager.
