How To Bet On Man City

Manchester City are one of the Premier League’s super-powers, but The Citizens weren’t always the financial behemoths they are today. Their rise from League One to Premier League Champions has been the stuff of dreams for their resilient and fiercely loyal fan base, and the stuff of nightmares for their ‘quiet neighbors’ down the road. But are Manchester City entering a new period of dominance over their cross-city rivals? Or will Pep Guardiola’s reign see City underachieve in a frenzy of high expectations.  [+]

Manchester City’s journey in the Premier League can be tracked to a few major moments, each of them pivotal. The first would definitely be the final day of the 1996 season, where the Citizens needed a victory on the final day to survive. However, their manager at the time, World Cup winner Alan Ball, was given misinformation that a tie would do City just fine; that results elsewhere would keep them up. Results didn’t go their way and they were relegated. However, the ‘other’ club in Manchester proved that they have just as much strength as Manchester United, by surging to two promotions and rising as a Premier League powerhouse.

In came Sheik Mansour to invest heavily in the team once they were established as a consistent Premier League team. City were suddenly one of the most coveted teams and were able to snatch players from under the noses of their rivals, paying big money to do so. They have won the Premier League twice since Mansour entered the scene.

The 2011/12 season was a memorable one for City, who were finally establishing themselves in a title race with their perennial rivals Manchester United. All City had to do was beat a lowly Q.P.R. side on the final day to win the league. However, any slip up and United merely had to beat Sunderland to take the title. United got their win, and City were 2-1 down to Q.P.R. heading into the dying minutes. But as news reached Rangers of their survival courtesy of other results, City took advantage, as Edin Dzeko headed in unmarked from a corner which was followed up by a Sergio Aguero stunning late strike to win Manchester City their first Premier League title.

Another title followed two years later. But Manuel Pellegrini’s men fell well short against Chelsea and, subsequently Leicester. Pep Guardiola led City to a third-place finish in his first year at Manchester.

How To Win Man City Bets

Manchester City entered the 2016/17 Premier League season as favorites to win the title at just +200. The sports books, not for the first time, were wrong. City started the season in fine form, winning 10 games in a row and leading the way in the Premier League.

But things started to fall apart for a large stint thereafter. City, without Vincent Kompany for larger portions of the season, started conceding goals in bundles. The center back pairing of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi weren’t up to the challenge. They committed way too many errors in trying to play the ball out of the back while Otamendi doesn’t have the defensive prowess needed in England’s top flight.

City are always a good futures bet in each competiton, though. Feel fairly confident backing them to win the Premier League and FA Cup, as Guardiola will be under immense pressure to succeed in forthcoming seasons.

By no means are they prepared to win a Champions League yet. This team is too frail defensively to win Europe’s elite competition. However, keep an eye on their progress as they could be in with a chance once Guardiola sorts out his defensive woes.
